Behavior

General

  • BSC expects each coach to behave in a professional manner and with propriety and self control.  The principles of good sportsmanship and fair play will be emphasized and demonstrated at all times by each coach. It is the expectation that the coach will teach players not only how to win, but how to win and lose, with dignity.
  • Each coach will teach and demonstrate respect for other coaches, managers, all players, referees or other officials. All problems and concerns relating to BSC matters should be directed to appropriate channels (i.e. the Program Director). Denigrating comments, gossip or innuendo concerning BSC, its employees, volunteers or coaches are not permissible and will not be tolerated.
  • No cell phone use is allowed during training, practice or competitive sessions.
  • Coaches must comply with the BSC bylaws and all BSC policies and procedures.
  • The primary responsibility of each coach is to BSC and the specific duties as assigned by BSC through the Board of Directors and the Program Director.
  • Each coach will provide each participant with training and developmental opportunities that allow for growth and development of each participant, as a soccer player and as an individual.
  • Each coach will dress appropriately. Soccer gear must be worn at training sessions and games. Coaches should be cleanshaven and/or well groomed.
  • Buffalo Soccer Club expects each person to whom this Code of Conduct applies, to abide by the Principles and Standards set forth herein and to conduct the business and affairs of BSC Corporation in a manner consistent with the general statement of principles set forth herein.
  • Failure to abide by this Policy, the Code of Conduct or the guidelines for behavior, which the Code of Conduct represents, may lead to disciplinary action.
  • Discipline for failure to abide by this Policy may, in BSC Corporation's discretion, range from verbal counseling or monetary fines to termination of any employment contract or other relationship.
  • For alleged violations of this policy, BSC Corporation, through the Director(s) of Coaching and the Board of Directors, will weigh relevant facts and circumstances, including, but not limited to, the extent to which the behavior was contrary to the express language or general intent of the policy, the egregiousness of the behavior, the individual's history with the organization and other factors which BSC Corporation deems relevant.
  • The Board of Directors has the final authority in all matters pertaining to the Buffalo Soccer Club and administration of this or any other policies.

Training Sessions

  • All staff members should be a minimum of 10 (ten) minutes early to all training sessions.
  • The coach / staff member should be dressed and prepared to start with all necessary equipment for the session.
  • Coaches must have training session plans prepared in advance. Written plans are preferred for maximum efficiency. A copy of the plan should be available for Program Director perusal at time of practice.

Competitions/Road Trips

  • All staff members should be a minimum of 30 (thirty) minutes early to all league or tournament competitions
  • BSC coaches reflect the club and appropriate mature behavior is expected at all times
  • Coaches must refrain from the use of alcohol and tobacco while in the presence of players
  • Coaches must assist in the enforcement of the BSC tobacco and alcohol policy that states that there is to be no use of tobacco or alcohol products at any BSC event

Communications

  • Each coach will communicate openly and frequently with managers, the Program Director, players, parents and the BSC BOD.
  • Coaches will collaborate with the staff and managers. Working closely with managers is imperative to ensure a problem free year.
  • Communications are expected to be professional, clear and in concert with all BSC policies.
  • Coaches are expected to reply to all emails sent out by the BSC Board of Directors, Program Director, team managers, players and parents within 48 (forty eight) hours, unless previous knowledge of leave has been given to the Program Director.
  • It is encouraged that the coaches “cc” the Program Director when communicating with parents and /or players. This policy will provide optimal protection for the coaches and club in the event of future problems related to communications.
  • The Coaches must contact the Program Director immediately and prior to resolution if a significant issue or problem arises.
  • Coaches should be proactive with problems arising within their teams and within the club. Early identification of potential problems is imperative and communication should occur prior to any crisis if possible.
