WNY Girls in Sports Event

On Saturday, MArch 20th the United Way, Buffalo Public Schools and the Girls Scouts Council of Western New York are hosting the 'Girls Got Game' Opening Event.  The event will take place at the Buffalo Bills Field House from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.  It will include girls ages nine (9) to twelve (12) from schools throughout the city of Buffalo.

The Opening Event aims to offer basic skills for a variety of sports to approximately 200 girls.  The girls will participate in hands-on clinics as well as attend presentations focused on good nutrition and self-esteem.  The interactive sports stations will be coordinated by student athletes and volunteers from the University at Buffalo, Canisius College, Niagara University, Buffalo State College, Niagara Frontier Jr. Olympic Volleyball Club, Upstate NY Jr Golf, Buffalo Soccer Club, and Sportsplex Jr Tennis Program.

The program was started in 2006 by Mary Wilson, wife of Bills owner Ralph Wilson, who has enjoyed a love of sports her entire life and wants to share not only that love of sports, but the benefits and positive effects on their young lives that come with participation in sports.
