Business Plan

Synapsis of Goals and Objectives

Algonquin Studios, a locally-owned and operated company in the city of Buffalo, has redirected some of its annual charitable contributions to create a position in the company called Director of Community Initiatives. This position, occupied by Tom Garigen Director of Coaching for Empire United Soccer Academy, has the sole responsibility to carry out a vision that is grand in both scope and depth. A not-for-profit entity called Algonquin Sports for Kids has been created. In the short term the programming for AS for Kids will manifest itself in the form of all types of soccer related activities including but not limited to after school activities, house leagues, travel leagues, mini clinics and tournaments. These programs will all be made available to the underprivileged children in the city.

The long term objectives are plentiful. First there is the development of soccer venues in the city that are clean and safe places to play soccer and be a kid. Through initiatives with the city of Buffalo and grant offering foundations across the country these venues will be created for the kids right in the city of Buffalo. Second is the privatization of athletics programs for the city school systems which are struggling to justify the allocation of funds to athletics programs with the difficulty in managing teacher salaries. Imagine a business model that has all athletic programming for inner city schools run and financed by local businesses and local and national grants. The third goal is a business model that generalizes to other activities and other urban settings that can be implemented with minimal consultation from Algonquin Sports for Kids.

In the end, AS for Kids hopes to have created models for sustainable programming for all types of sports activities in all types of urban settings across the country. The belief is that through sustainable youth programming will grow the hope of a better future for those who today have so little.

General Overview

Algonquin Sports, Inc. (AS for Kids) is a not for profit organization created to provide activities and opportunities for young people, regardless of race, religion or economic status, in urban communities. AS for Kids will design and implement youth sports programs with academic and social standards that will develop young people into well rounded members of our community. In addition to the programs that will take form in the City of Buffalo, we will create a robust business plan that will be made available to other urban communities.

Mission Statement:

To utilize sports as a platform to encourage youth and family development in a safe environment through healthy choices, the development of athletic identity and positive behavior changes specifically an increase in self discipline, personal responsibility, and respect for self and others.

Goals:

  • Create a robust, sustainable set of programs in Buffalo for kids of all ages, races, genders, income levels.
  • Enhance the lives of people in urban communities through sports.
  • Develop a business plan for the privatization of urban sports programs by mobilizing and unifying all community resources.
